Our History

Newberry Community School began with a shared belief: Newberry’s children deserve a school that reflects the values of the community in which they grow up.

For generations, families have trusted Newberry Elementary as a place where students are known, supported, and encouraged to succeed. As Newberry continues to grow and change, parents, educators, and community members came together to imagine what the next chapter of that school could look like, one that honors tradition while creating new learning opportunities.

Opening in August 2026 as a conversion public charter school, Newberry Community School continues in the same building that has long served local families. What’s changing isn’t the heart of the school, but the approach: greater flexibility, hands-on learning, and a renewed focus on preparing students for the world ahead.

Newberry Community School represents both continuity and hope, rooted in pride, guided by community, and focused on helping every child thrive.
