Exceptional Student Education
Newberry Community School supports students with a wide range of learning needs through an inclusive approach to Exceptional Student Education (ESE).
ESE at NCS includes services for students who need additional support as well as students who need additional challenge, including gifted learners. Our focus is on helping every student access learning, stay engaged, and feel supported in the school community.
Support Tailored to Each Student
Students receiving ESE services are supported through individualized plans, such as an Individualized Education Program (IEP), a gifted education plan, or a Section 504 Plan, depending on their needs. Support and accommodations are designed to build on each student’s strengths and may take place in general education classrooms, small-group settings, or other appropriate learning environments.
Inclusive practices are emphasized whenever possible, allowing students to learn alongside their peers while receiving the support or enrichment that helps them succeed.
Collaboration & Ongoing Support
ESE services are provided through collaboration among teachers, specialists, and support staff. Student progress is monitored regularly, and plans are reviewed to ensure services continue to meet each student’s needs.
When appropriate, NCS works in partnership with families and the School District of Alachua County to coordinate services and ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.
